Thank you cards are an important part of everyday life. Whether you’re thanking someone for a friend’s birthday, a gift, a job well done, or an open door, an acknowledgment of a kind deed is always appreciated. And because they are so common, thank you cards are probably one of the first cards we mail. How you make your thank you cards pop, though, can vary greatly.
It’s a good idea to create a card that is a little different than the other cards you mail. By using a unique stamp, a coordinating ribbon, or pretty paper, your thank-you cards will stand out from the rest. And it’s not as easy as it sounds to find unique thank you cards and stationery. So I’ve come up with a few tips to get you started on making your thank you cards stand out.
First, know your target audience. A personalised thank you cards for a friend is going to be a little different than a thank you for a business. And if you have the opportunity to customize a thank you card, do it. If it’s a thank you for a charity, I would definitely recommend using a different stamp than the one you’d use for a thank you for a friend.
But a thank you card for a friend, which I assume is our first step in creating these cards, is as follows:
- Find a creative stamp and match it to your thank you’s theme. There are a couple of things to consider here. First, you want to make sure the stamp is unique. A flower stamp will never be able to match a thank you for a birthday. Similarly, you won’t want to use a stamp with a school or office theme since it’s not appropriate. With that in mind, a thank you for an achievement, a birthday or graduation will be the perfect stamp.
- Next, make sure the stamp you choose is appropriate. I would recommend avoiding a stamp with a religious theme as it would be inappropriate for a thank you card for a friend. Similarly, if you are making a thank you for a birthday card, it’s best to avoid a stamp for a wedding or baby.
- Pick a ribbon to match your thank you’s theme. You can match the stamp with the ribbon or you can create a ribbon that is perfectly matched to your thank you’s theme. The key is to pick a ribbon that will complement your stamp.
- And last, pick your paper. Some of the most beautiful thank you cards are made with pretty papers. The right paper will make the thank you card pop. It’s a very simple thank you card, but it’s one that will make your card stand out from the crowd.
