Domaine Fourrier is a family owned winery in the appellation of Saumur. Their wines are made from the fruit of their farm and are grown, fermented, and bottled by biodynamic principles.
Domaine Fourrier was founded in 1905 by Emile Fourrier. The wine-growing estate is located on the plateau of Touraine on the coteau du Loir, in the upper valley of Villeneuve L’Eveque, in the central Loire Valley 10 km from the town of Chinon.
Domaine Fourrier is a winery started in 1946. Located in the Loire region of France, based in Bléré, France From the humble beginnings of a little farm producing fruit that was used to make cider, their idea was to start a small business based on wine. Domaine Fourrier represents the “new generation” of Beaujolais winemakers: they have broken with the standard Beaujolais nomenclature and have produced well-crafted wines that have earned them a good reputation in France as well as abroad. Online wine auctions produce only red wine from two Grand Crus (Beaujolais Villages) : Morgan and Fleurie. The wines from the 2007 vintage received 5 stars from Robert Parker, the first 5 stars ever awarded to a Beaujolais wine. This is a very unusual occurrence: Never has one wine received 5 stars from every major critic in America. There are only two other French appellations that have received this honor.
Domaine Fourrier has been a staple of Beaujolais production since the late 18th century. Now in the hands of Bernard Fourrier, the fourth generation of the family to be making wine, Domaine Fourrier is grown and produced strictly according to biodynamic methods. Inspired by his grandfather’s successful biodynamic certificate, Bernard has extended these principles to all of his vineyards. Among the oldest extant properties in Chablis, Domaine Fourrier dates back to 1735. At that time, it was a parcel of land granted to the family by the Huguenot King, Louis XIV. Today, the Domaine is managed by descendant Michel Fourrier and owned by Anne-Marie and Jean-Paul Faiveley.
Domaine Fourrier has obtained an outstanding rating of “Exceptional” in the Languedoc-Roussillon wine classification of 2011. With 5 gold medals and 20 silver medals, Domaine Fourrier is one of the leading wine producers in the region. The classification is arranged according to a sliding scale from A to C, with A being the best rating. Only 10 producers were designated as “Exceptional.”

Narrowing their 100 plus wines down to just one or two that you should try is a tough job, but we’ve managed to pick our two favorites and they are all mentioned here.
Domaine Fourrier designates one-fifth of their total production as “fine” and offers it under the “Hommage” label. This top-of-the-line wine is aged 24 months in wood before being bottled in magnums (1.5 liters). The grapes are sourced from the best vineyards, chosen for their optimal exposition and geographical diversity. The result is a subtle blend of Ardennes fruit aromas with a hint of fresh smoke. The term for the juice after pressing is “must”. This must be fermented en tirage libre, making this a natural wine.
Domaine Fourrier is run by three generations of winegrowers. The vineyards are just behind the town of Pouilly-sur-Loire in one of the most prestigious areas of Burgundy. The main product is Chardonnay and Pinot Noir but they also produce Gamay, Trousseau, Champigny, and Melon d’Arbois wines. The Domaine Fourrier is located in Saint-Pourçain in the heart of the Nièvre region, known for its white wines. Having received a rating of 4 out of 5 stars from Decanter, this vineyard has been praised for its Sauvignon blanc and Silex. Their Blanc de Bordeaux has been called ‘one of the best dry whites in the whole world’ by wine expert Colman Davis, who has given it a score of 100/100.
Domaine Fourrier, located in the village of Cairanne, is one of the oldest and most respected wine making families in France. Guillaume Fourrier’s 2009 Cinsault was rated 93 points by Robert Parker, making it a “Parker wine”.
